Returning for another year of fun playing with fire,  we invite you to come and explore the world of alternative ceramic firing.  In this workshop we will discover the fundamentals of each alternative firing technique.  Through practical demonstrations and hands on experience, each student will go through all the steps necessary to create beautiful and artful surfaces for their work without the use of glaze.  Techniques will include, saggar firing, obvara firing, metal salts firing  and possibly horsehair/feather and traditional raku.  (time permitting)

Beginner through advanced students are all welcome.

To Register for this workshop, Click here, or visit the Registration link in the main menu.  Please include the name and date of the workshop.  To secure your place, a 50% deposit must accompany your registration, with the balance owing before or on the first day of the workshop. All deposits are non-refundable .  A 90% refund will only be provided if another student is able to take your place.

 WHAT TO BRING

This is a fast paced workshop.  Please bring suitable clothing for outdoor work. Each student is asked to bring 4 - 6 bisque fired pieces. Please speak with David or Audrey so that they can go over the details on how to prepare your ware for this workshop. For smooth surface items it would be best  (but not necessary) if the item is either burnished, or prepared with terra sigilatta. For textured surfaces or sculptural pieces, the items can be left without any further treatments.

Note:  High contrast results for both sagger and obvara firing can be obtained using light or white bodied clays.  However, darker clays can also produce unexpected and beautiful surfaces.
